Scott Pike leaves B&A Group

B&A Group driver Scott Pike announces his departure from the Bristol-based waste management company

After many happy years at Bristol & Avon Group Waste Management, Scott has decided to leave us and achieve a long-held dream of setting up his own caravan site with family in Wales. If all goes to plan, he is hoping everything will be ready for his next business venture in spring 2019.

Reflecting on his time at B&A Group, Scott said, “It has been a very difficult decision, but I have been given the opportunity to gain experience on long distance haulage, which will work extremely well out of season whilst we’re establishing our new business.”

Scott was one of our most experienced drivers having joined us in 2004, where he enjoyed over fourteen successful years at B&A Group. More recently, he obtained his class 1 licence, due to his valuable experience out on the road.

“Scott was a total gentleman, and nothing was too much trouble,” said Ian Reay, Waste Credit Controller at B&A Group, “I never heard him complain once. People would specifically ask for him to do their skips because of the way he conducted himself.”

Ian added: “I have been working for over 51 years and Scott is the most hardworking, consciences, humble man I have had the pleasure to work with. I class him as a friend as much as a work mate.”

Also speaking of Scott’s departure, Chris Rowles, our Waste Transport Co-ordinator, commented: “If you needed an awkward or sensitive job done then Scott was the man to use. He could get skips out of places most drivers wouldn’t and he could also figure out how to use straps and bars to manoeuvre them out of the tightest places. We are really going to miss him,” adding that Scott was often put forward to provide training to B&A Group’s newest drivers, due to his extensive skillset and vehicle knowledge.

Scott currently holds the Bristol & Avon Waste record for the most amount of jobs completed in one day, which stands at an impressive 17 in total.

His efforts were regularly commended, especially this year after receiving a letter from our client Andrea Vowles, Managing Director of Portishead Investment Ltd, for going above and beyond the call of duty. “He made no fuss, sought no reward, but just quietly did the job,” Ms. Vowles remarked, “He also had a small space in which to manoeuvre his vehicle, however, he achieved this task with such skill and ability that it was a pleasure to watch.”

Aside from his strong work ethic, Scott always put himself forward to help others, which was evident from his support towards our nominated charity, ‘Meningitis Now’, where he acquired sponsorship and competed in many fund-raising activities; including several Tough Mudder events with his wife Tanya.

When asked what he is going to miss most at B&A Group, Scott remarked: “My truck. It’s like my second home, being local and everyone at Bristol and Avon, particularly Aidan who has been a fantastic boss and has always looked after me.”

Scott has many fond memories of both Aidan and Kevin Berkely. This included cooking steaks and handing them out to the drivers. “It made you feel part of the family,” he said.

Everyone is going to miss Scott dearly, particularly work colleagues from the B&A Waste Management team.
